1-Day Inclusive Teacher Training: Foundations (Nov 26)

Sat 28 Nov
Mountview

Want to make your dance teaching more inclusive, creative and responsive?

Join Candoco Dance Company for Inclusive Teacher Training: Foundations – a practical one-day course for dance artists, teachers and facilitators. Ideal for anyone who wants greater confidence and more tools for making dance sessions that work for disabled and non-disabled participants alike.

You’ll take part in a class, then unpack why it was built that way. You’ll try out planning tools you can use straight away. And you’ll leave with a session or task idea ready to use in your own teaching.

Candoco has been developing this approach for over 30 years, working with disabled and non-disabled artists across professional, community and education settings worldwide. This course is a practical way into that experience.

“I’m leaving with practical tools I can apply immediately – thinking about barriers, using more inclusive language, and planning more creatively.”

What you’ll do on the day

  • Take part in a live inclusive dance class, then reflect on how and why it was structured that way.
  • Learn simple ways to identify and remove barriers in a dance space.
  • Practise using language, invitation and choice to bring more people into a task.
  • Try building tasks with more than one way in – so different people can join in their own way.
  • Learn how to plan a session with a clear structure, while staying open to change it on the day.
  • Practice adapting a creative task in response to the people in the room and the possibilities they bring.
  • Build or rework a session plan you can use in your own teaching.

What you’ll take away

  • A set of practical tools for planning and running inclusive dance sessions.
  • Ways to design tasks that are accessible and invite different creative choices and contributions.
  • Sharper instincts for noticing how different people are engaging – and adjusting as you go.
  • More confidence in making teaching decisions in the moment.
  • A session or task idea, ready to develop for your own context.
  • Reading, planning templates and video resources to keep learning after the day.

Who it’s for

This course is for dance teachers, dance artists, movement practitioners and facilitators – working now or preparing to work in schools, universities, community groups or professional dance settings.
You don’t need any experience of inclusive dance to come along. It’s especially suitable if you’re just starting to build inclusive teaching into your practice, or want a solid foundation before moving on to our Advanced course (Spring 2027).

Age guidance: 18+
