In Side Out

Wed 16 – Fri 18 Nov 2022

With 30 years of inclusive practice behind them, Candoco Dance Company looks to the future by presenting a new evening of work as a prologue to the next chapter in their rich history.

In Worlds Unknown by Seke Chimutengwende explores themes of lostness, uncertainty, navigation, and survival, combining intricate choreography with poetry written, and performed by Candoco dancers. Annie Hanauer’s soft shell is a work that plays with seeing and being seen, asks what we show and what we keep hidden, and where each of us might break the rules by being who we are.

On Wednesday 16 November, audiences will see Object Permanence, the latest work by dance artist and Candoco Independent Researcher, Kat Hawkins. On Thursday 17 and Friday 18 November the programme will include an intimate and detailed performance practice by Candoco dancer Markéta Stránská in collaboration with dance artist Charlie Morrissey.

Closing the programme each night in the Fox Garden Court is a new work by Candoco dancer Joel Brown, inspired by his US Mormon upbringing and the tradition of ‘Family Home Evening’ where families come together, sing, share talents, and family business.

In addition, there is a digital offering including Jo Bannon’s film Feeling Thing with ASMR (autonomous meridian sensory response) sound, the playful and striking dance film Cuckoo, and more.
