Sour Milk

By Javier de Frutos
2002
Against a dramatic score of ancient Chinese drumming, the repressed, ritualistic movement of this quartet by Javier de Frutos explodes into an exhilarating and passionate climax.

Sumptuous 19th century costumes and stark lighting contrast in Javier de Frutos’ stunningly theatrical piece. Dressed in beautiful 19th Century inspired ball gowns, three women dance accompanied by ancient Chinese drumming. Their movements are graceful and elegant, challenging the passionate, tribal essence of the drums.

Dominated by a single man, they merge together creating a moving image of tormented souls. At times pure and at others lurid and sexual, Sour Milk takes on many contradictions and culminates in a powerful and moving climax.
