Ania Varez

“My teaching practice is very diverse, and changes to better meet the needs of the group I am working with! Flying Low and Passing Through techniques are foundational to my dancing, so they often come into my professional classes, as well as different approaches to improvising in and out of contact. When teaching communities of non-professional performers, I rely a lot on games that lead to movement. I am also a certified Yoga teacher and bring elements of it into my dance classes.”

Ania’s work is highly collaborative and experimental, and often straddles the mediums of dance, community development practices, activism, and poetry. It can look like a party, an installation, an immersive theatrical experience or a carefully crafted space for conversations. They collaborate with other artists and with communities that may feel art is not for them. Their work has been showcased internationally and in the UK, including: SPILL Festival, Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival, Migration Matters Festival, Taipei Centre of Contemporary Art, the National Gallery of Venezuela and Trinity Centre. Ania graduated with Honours from the London Contemporary Dance School (2015), was awarded a Leverhulme Scholarship from the Bristol Old Vic (2019-2020) and is a proud member of Interval, an artists collective in Bristol.
