Charleston Charlies and the Bee's Knees

Charleston Charlies and the Bee's Knees by Kimberley Harvey and Anne-Gaëlle Thiriot, Photography by Hannah Dye 2016

Premiered at Greenwich Dance.

Set in the 1920’s, Charleston Charlies and the Bee’s Knees gives you a taster of life at the music hall. You’ll see backstage happenings and then when the curtains open!

The dancers explore different characters, movement qualities and the musicality of the era – all with a bit of vintage flare. Adapted for stage from the Blackheath Halls film project. Cando2 @ Laban was one of the youth groups/companies involved in Linked, a film project set in historical building Blackheath Halls, bringing together Magpie, Thomas Talles school and Trinity Laban Danceability group from the borough of Lewisham. For the original project we made a series of vignettes set in various locations of the historical building, and filmed by David McCormick with co-direction by Stella Howard. We then made a staged version based on these for the Cando2 Cabaret at Greenwich Dance.
