Alongside the UK premiere of Face In by Yasmeen Godder, Candoco Dance Company are delighted to be working in partnership with The Lowry to deliver Candoco’s annual Teacher Training Intensive this October in Salford.
The Teacher Training Intensive is a professional development opportunity for disabled and non-disabled dance artists and teachers who are keen to explore the principles of Candoco’s inclusive practice.
The 3-day training, delivered by Candoco’s Artistic Co-Director Charlotte Darbyshire, Rehearsal Director Susanna Recchia and the company dancers, will introduce the fundamental principles of Candoco’s inclusive approach through exploration of the company’s newest work, Face In. Focusing on individual teaching practice and questions, we will explore core values, creative and inclusive approaches to technique class and artistic process and use of language and communication.
By booking a place on the intensive, participants will receive a complimentary ticket to Candoco’s new double bill at The Lowry on 24 October, featuring Yasmeen Godder’s bold and uninhibited Face In and Alexander Whitley’s visually striking work, Beheld.
Candoco’s principles are to:
- QUESTION perceptions of what best practice and inclusive teaching might be
- DEVELOP skills, communication and confidence in working with a diverse class
- INSPIRE a spirit of openness and curiosity to find new ways of working
- NURTURE creativity so that students and teachers continue to learn and fulfil their artistic potential
The Teacher Training Intensive will explore:
- Inclusive approaches to technique; looking at shape, pace of class and translation
- Use of language and communication skills
- Identifying diverse needs and finding strategies for learning
- Application of learning to individual context
- Introduction to the Models of Disability
