Jessica’s passion for dance began from an early age, completing a BA (Hons) in Dance and Culture at the University of Surrey, and Masters in Choreography at Trinity Laban. As a dance maker, Jessica’s enthusiasm and previous knowledge and experience in various aspects of dance, in particular inclusive and outreach work for all ages and abilities continues to grow. Jessica has performed and assisted for a number of projects including Big Dance, Dance Umbrella and Tate Modern’s Live Performance Events. She has worked as a freelance dance teacher/choreographer and began her career as Public Programmes Administrator at South East Dance, supporting the Public Programme Producer and Public Programme Manager in delivering the artistic and community programme.
Prior to Candoco, Jessica was most recently in the position of Operations Coordinator at Magpie Dance and provided administrative support to the whole organisation, assisting with logistics and planning, project coordination, marketing and communications, producing the Highfliers Summer tour 2016 - 17 and was the first point of contact for all enquiries to the charity. She worked closely with Magpie Dance’s Artistic and Executive Director and General Manager to support strategic decision-making, assisting the development of Magpie’s three strands of activity: participation, performance and training.
Jessica is excited to join Candoco’s Learning team and support the work the company facilitates for disabled people to access dance, professional dance artists, the community and the wider public, continuing to challenge and change people’s perceptions of who can dance and what dance can be.
Jessica takes an active interest in the future of the dance sector and has just been appointed as a co-ordinator for the Dance Educators Group, a national networking group of dance education officers and managers who work for dance organisations, dance venues or dance agencies across the UK.
