Celeste Dandeker-Arnold trained and danced with London Contemporary Dance Theatre from 1968-1973. She studied Theatre Costume Design at Croydon College of Art and designed costumes for London Contemporary Dance Theatre, Graeae, Union Dance Company, National Youth Dance Theatre and Candoco’s production ofFlying in the Face of… (1992). Celeste worked with Darshan Singh Bhuller on the dance film The Fall (1990) for the BBC series 10×10, and on Once Upon a Time in England (1992) for Spring Loaded at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. In 1991, she co-founded Candoco Dance Company with Adam Benjamin. Celeste danced with Candoco until she retired in 1999 to enable her to concentrate on the artistic direction of the company. She co-choreographed Christy Don’t Leave So Soon(1992) and Deuce (1998) and appeared in the award-winning film Outside Inchoreographed by Victoria Marks for the BBC series Dance For Camera. In 1997 she was awarded an MBE and in 2007 an OBE. Upon retiring as Artistic Director in 2007, Celeste was the recipient of the Jane Attenborough Dance UK Industry Award and the De Valois Award for Outstanding Achievement. Celeste is a proud patron of the company.
